Elias Sarantopoulos, Educator, Designer, Book Author

Born in Athens, Greece, Elias migrated to the US where he received his BA and MA degrees. He started his professional career in the mid-90s working for tech startups focusing on web technologies and being a part time faculty in various educational institutions. An educator over the past 28 years teaching in universities and social platforms, covering page layout, animation, vector and interaction design.

In 2016 he became a book author, writing the Church of Chora. The book is the most comprehensive interactive guide describing some of the oldest and finest surviving Byzantine mosaics and frescoes in the Church of the Holy Saviour in Chora, Istanbul, Turkey. A unique reader experience with the use of interactive maps, voice narrations, videos, references to the Bible describing each episode, original Greek text appearing on the mosaics and frescoes and over 300 detailed photographs. In 2018 the Church of Chora book was awarded by the Independent Publisher Book Awards as the BEST ADULT NON-FICTION INFORMATIONAL E-BOOK.

Elias is currently residing in Istanbul, Turkey teaching at a private university participating in all aspects of visual communication design.

The Church of Chora book is the most interactive museum guide describing some of the oldest and finest surviving Byzantine mosaics and frescoes in the Chora church located in Istanbul, Turkey. Formerly known as the Kariye Camii and now the Kariye Müzesi (Chora museum), it is one of the most remarkable remnants of the Byzantine Empire, one of the best things to do and a top rated tourist attraction when visiting Istanbul.

The Chora Church book has been created with such passion and zest, the way I always feel entering the building. The use of interactive maps, voice narrations, and videos greatly improve reader experience. It provides unique and very detailed photographs capturing some of the oldest and finest surviving Byzantine mosaics and frescoes as well as citations and references from the Old and New Testament.
